General Requirements for Muslim Marriage

These are the general requirements for Muslim Marriage. Other embassies in Thailand impose to their Muslim citizens that they get an Islamic marriage prior to registering their marriage under Thai law. After the ceremony, the couple will be issued a Marriage Certificate. It can be both in English or Arabic as deemed necessary. A service fee will be charged by the Islamic Center and another fee will be charged if using the services of a law firm to assist you.

General Requirements for Muslim Marriage

·         Islamic Conversion Certificate

–          This document is required from a non-Muslim party prior to entering an Islamic marriage in Thailand. As stated in Islamic law, a non-Muslim is required to convert to Islam and undergo a conversion ceremony prior to Muslim marriage registration. This process can also be done prior to coming to Thailand, in the home country of a non-Muslim individual. If processing the conversion is not possible prior to coming over to Thailand, the Islamic Center in Bangkok can do the whole process for the non-Muslim party before the marriage ceremony. The Islamic center in Thailand will then issue a conversion certificate after the ceremony.

·         Passport

–          Both marrying parties will be required to copies of their passports, including the page where the Thai Immigration stamps appear. This is applicable if both are foreigners. But for Thai locals, Thai Id and Thai household registration are the only documents required as Identification to proceed.

·         Divorce or Death Certificate, whichever is applicable

–          If the female party has been married before or the previous spouse had died, then there is a need to present a Divorce Certificate or Death Certificate upon marriage registration. This is only applicable to the female side.

·         Medical Certificate

–          This document is required for the female party of the marriage who has undergone a divorce within the last 3 months. This certificate should state that the woman is not pregnant.

·         7 pcs Recent Photos (1.5 in x 1.5 in)

 

Marriage Location

The marriage will take place in the Islamic office. The whole ceremony usually lasts for about an hour or two, wherein a certificate. They will then be issued by the officiating Imam after the ceremony. Engaging with the services of marriage professionals is highly recommended. This for those who are not very familiar with how things are done in Thailand at the Islamic Council. One will need a professional to accompany you throughout the whole marriage process and also making appointments with the Islamic Center on your behalf. The language and cultural differences should always be considered, that is why it is best to have someone who can speak both English and Thai to accompany you for this event. There are some requirements which is necessary for some nationalities. A letter of consent from their embassies in Bangkok is needed for citizens. These mostly citizens of U.A.E, Kuwait, Bahrain and Maldives.
